Garcia: "I want the derby and Europe Forza Roma, I know what the fans want

No, this time there was no well-wishing or particular encouragement, although in some ways it’s needed given the current atmosphere in Roma these days. And then Rudi Garcia knows that he’s offering his heart to the "Lupi", for whom he’s already signed a two-year deal (with an option for a third season), and that he’ll have to give everything he has for the Giallorossi in order to heal the wounds left by the failures in the last couple of years. Friday night Rudi was at the restaurant "In bocca al lupo" (which also happens to mean "good luck" in Italian), owned by Gilberto D’Annunzio, one of his best friends from his 5 years in Lille. There he had dinner with Gilberto and Guy Marseguerra, another of his close friends and the director of the Sebastopol theatre. The setting was a table in a street in the city centre (near the Place aux Oignons) where people strolled along and didn’t notice Rudi. A dish of ravioli with pesto took the place of the usual tagliatelle al ragù, followed by a veal cutlet "alla milanese". It was the kind of calm atmosphere that will soon prove impossible for him to find in Rome.
Hello, Rudi. In Rome people are anxiously awaiting you. When will you arrive in the capital?
Tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest. However, all the arrangements are nearly complete.
In the mini press conference last Wednesday in New York you spoke a bit of Italian. So you already know our language?
No, not yet, but I understand almost everything [he speaks Spanish, ed]. I know it’s very important to speak the local language for many reasons. You’ll see that I’ll learn it quickly. Also because you’ll have to talk with some key players, including Francesco Totti. And he speaks no French whatsoever.
Don’t worry. Totti is a great player and a great lad. There won’t be any problems with Francesco.Do you already have an idea of what kind of Roma side you’ll field?
There’s a lot of work to do, but we’re already doing it with Walter Sabatini and Frederic Massara. I know the team, but I have to move there as soon as possible to plan out the season, beginning with the preparations. As I said in New York, I’m a very dedicated person. I hope to stay in Rome a long time, just as I did in Lille.
