"Xavi told us he would rather play with one player than another"

Toni Grande, Del Bosque's assistant coach, has revealed that the coaching staff have had "some disagreements" with Xavi Hernández, who told them which player "he would rather play with", although they were never "demands".
"It's true there have been times when we've had some disagreements with Xavi. He has to have his say. He told us he would rather play with one player than another. They were never demands, but conversations looking for an advantage. He thought that advantage was best, but we didn't think so," he revealed in an interview with 'Diario de la Roja'.
Grande assured that Xavi is always attentive to everything related to the national team. "As a player, he's always concerned about these kinds of things. As a player who likes to keep the ball, he's the first to look at how the pitch has been watered, what condition it's in. He's always very interested in tactical matters. He has tried to get us to see certain things and we've also tried to get him to see our way of looking at things, and things have never gone any further than that," he said.
